John D. Wagner serves as a Managing Director for 1stWEST Mergers & Acquisitions and is leading our cannabis/hemp, technology/software, and distribution sectors. He has been involved with numerous successful private fund-raising events and M&A efforts in his career. Mr. Wagner served as director of corporate communications and investor relations for BuildNet, where he helped roll up 12 logistics & workflow management software companies; he co-authored the private placement memorandums and an S1 that raised $147 million for BuildNet from Credit Suisse First Boston, Robertson Stephens, GE Capital, SSB, and other investment banks. Today, Mr. Wagner is a widely published M&A expect and columnist, with articles regularly appearing in MJBizDaily’s Investor Intelligence, LBM Journal and Industrial Distribution. His most-recent book is M&A Basics For Cannabis & Hemp Companies.
Recently, Mr. Wagner engaged in the successful sale of multiple software and distribution companies, including three companies sold to Berkshire Hathaway’s MiTek, where he also serves as a consultant. On a pro bono basis, Mr. Wagner was also involved in efforts to resurrection baseball manufacturing in Haiti.
Mr. Wagner is the author of 2,500+ articles that have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, NPR, LA Times, and other leading outlets. He has written 17 books, most recently M&A Basics For Cannabis & Hemp Companies and M&A Basics For People in a Hurry. Mr. Wagner recently served as adjunct instructor in the Business School and the School of Architecture + Art at Norwich University, where he taught architecture and entrepreneurialism at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
