John D. Wagner serves as a Managing Director for 1stWEST Mergers & Acquisitions and is leading our lumber, construction, and building materials and technology sectors. He has been involved with numerous successful private fund raising events and M&A efforts in his career. Mr. Wagner served as director of corporate communications and investor relations for BuildNet, where he helped roll up 12 home building software companies; he co-authored the private placement memorandums and an S1 that raised $147 million for BuildNet from Credit Suisse First Boston, Robertson Stephens, GE Capital, SSB, and other investment banks.

Recently, Mr. Wagner engaged in the successful sale of a multi-national software company and efforts to fund the resurrection of baseball manufacturing in Haiti. In 2015-2016, he served as a senior advisor to both BuilderMT and Sales Simplicity in their acquisition by MiTek, a Berkshire Hathaway company. Today, Mr. Wagner’s special focus is on the lumber and building material sectors, as well as building product manufacturers, and technology providers for the construction industry.

Mr. Wagner is an adjunct instructor in the Business School and the School of Architecture + Art at Norwich University, where he teaches architecture and entrepreneurialism. He is the author of 16 books and 2,500+ articles that have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, NPR, LA Times, and other leading outlets.
